Set List Sunday
I'm looking forward to doing some new songs this year - songs that are popular and songs that are yet to be known.
One goal I have is to write more songs for our church. I've always been a big fan of churches that create original material for their ministries.
As a songwriter I got convicted last year that I was being complacent in my stewardship of our weekly song choices. I was falling off the horse on the side of never doing anything original.
This is not to say that doing other people's music is lazy.
Of course I'm not saying that. There will always be songs at a national and international level that are written for the body of Christ. These songs are gifts to the church.
But if local churches have their own gifted artists and writers, they should be utilizing them, trusting that God will bring forth the fruit, however He wants it, whenever He wants it.
Each local church has their own unique roll to play in the grand narrative of God's mission in the world; therefore, each church can have their own unique soundtrack that marks its own movement - no matter how large or small the movement is.
This morning's worship song set:
Set List Sunday (24)
This is my 24th worship song set posted here on the blog, and the first one of 2013. It's hard to believe that a new year is upon us!
This morning I'm thankful for the Church. There's nothing like corporate worship on the Lord's Day.
Being able to celebrate the good news every week with the people of God is a gift I don't want to take for granted. And the reality that I get to play a small part in leading these people humbles me.
We get to behold the beauty of God today! That is truly an awesome reality.
This year I want to be a person of One Thing. I hope and pray that my leadership as a worshiper of Jesus is marked by a single desire for Jesus. I hope for David's prayer to be my own in 2013.
One thing have I asked of the LORD,
that will I seek after:
that I may dwell in the house of the LORD
all the days of my life,
to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD
and to inquire in his temple.
(Psalm 27:4 ESV)

Hello and Happy Christmas Eve Eve!
As usual each week I try to post the morning's setlist from our church in Greensboro. Check out the songs in this week's Set List Sunday post...
Have a great day!
It's hard to believe there are only three Sundays left in 2012. It's been quite a year!
As I've been praying and thinking abut this morning's set list, I was reminded of the importance of preaching the gospel to myself every day.
I hope that every week our set is not only "gospel centered", but that it serves as a visible progression of the proper order of worship.
In this set I see the following progression:
Repent, Proclaim, Receive, Respond
God's word tells me that to love Him with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to love my neighbor as myself, is the greatest commandment of all. (Mark 12)
If I were to get these two commandments right, then everything else in my life would be taken care of. I would naturally love others if I'm consumed with the complete love of God, and I would be the kind of worshiper that God wants worshiping Him.
So how does this happen? It only takes place when an awareness of His love for me begins to grow in my life and mind. This awareness only happens as I keep my eyes on Jesus and what He's done for me in the gospel.
Preaching the gospel to myself every day is the best way for...
December is Here
Are you looking forward to wrapping up 2012? Can you believe how fast it's gone by? God has been so faithful. For us, 2012 was the year of the baby.
We prepared for him, we had him (Katie actually did), and now we're learning how to take care of him. Pretty full year. Makes the time go by much faster!
Last night we had a wonderful evening of worship with Gate City Vineyard. I plan on doing a post about it with a complete run down of the set at some point, but for now just know that it went great.
Thanks to everyone who showed up!
The Ever Expanding List
This is my 20th Set List Sunday post! Here's to twenty more!
This morning at LWC should be interesting. Our sound board went out at
